How to Study and Interpret the Bible

DR. JEFF CATE

At times, reading and studying the New Testament can seem difficult because the specific language, context, issues, and occasions can seem obscure and considerably different than what we face in our modern world. The biblical authors were writing to real people in an original historical context that can be quite different from our own. Their language was different, their way of worship, their clothing, money, food, occupations, cities, government, etc. And the starting point for understanding any written text is always what the original author was saying to the original readers in their context. In this session, we will walk through a variety of New Testament passages and consider principles to help us understand passages that can seem unclear or raise difficult questions.

In a world filled with competing voices, God’s Word remains our steady guide. It’s more than a workshop—it’s a time to gather, grow, and glorify God as we encourage one another to live with obedience, confidence, and joy rooted in His truth.

DR. JULIUS L. WEST

What do you say to a person at that moment when scripture just doesn't seem to provide an adequate answer or an appropriate level of comfort? How do you help people to deal with the devastation of death, illness, divorce, financial disaster, insurmountable circumstances or unexpectant tragedies?  This session will examine and better equip you to participate in one of the greatest privileges that any of us will ever have as ambassadors for Christ, “Caring for People in Crisis.”
